CDM statement on TX SB4

CDM commends U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia’s decision to temporarily block SB 4, the Texas legislation that outlaws sanctuary cities and promotes racial profiling. Despite purporting to keep communities safe, the law would instead encourage discrimination against immigrants and migrant workers, threaten freedom, and subvert public safety and trust.

The courts should permanently block implementation of SB 4. The devastating aftermath of Hurricane Harvey only heightens the need to stand together and recognize that united communities are stronger communities.
