Accessible internet program: a way to access health services

Migrant workers: do you live or  work in the United States and are you interested in accessing digital resources to protect your health?

There is an option available! The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) benefit program that helps ensure that households have access to high-quality Internet service. This service is essential to efficiently cover work-related tasks, education and access to health care.

A lot of useful information to take care of your health, or access vaccines and treatments, is shared virtually - for example, on websites, social media profiles, live broadcasts or maps to find vaccination sites or schedule appointments. However, many people do not have internet at home, making it more difficult to quickly find these resources.

If you use the internet for work, school, or to search for  free vaccines or other COVID-19 resources, this program may be of interest to you.

What is the program?

  • A discount on your internet of up to $30/month

  • A discount on your internet of up to $75/month on qualifying tribal lands

  • A device discount of up to $100 when you purchase a laptop, desktop or tablet from qualifying vendors.

How do I know if I am eligible?

This program is focused on households, not individuals, so you may qualify  if;

  • Your household income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

  • A household member meets at least one of the following conditions:

  • Participates in certain welfare programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8), Project Based  Rental Assistance (PBRA)/202/811), Public Housing, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Benefits, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), or Lifeline.

  • Participates in the free or low-cost National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program.  Includes enrollment in a USDA Community Eligibility Provision program school.

  • Received a Federal Pell Grant for college during the current year.

  • Participates in Tribal programs, such as Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance, Tribal TANF, the Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian Affordable Housing Programs, or the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations.

  • Meets the eligibility criteria required by a participating provider in an existing low-income program.

Unfortunately, individuals on temporary work visas, such as H-2A or H-2B visas, do not qualify for this program.
