I enjoy writing the harvest every year for the last 3-4 years for Shinn&Son. They are good employers, management treats the workers well and the pay is good. That's why myself and my family continue to work for them year after year. I will be honest with a few things however that I have experienced personally and can only say this for myself and not for the other workers; these are a few things that I have experienced that I did not like or agree with while working for them. We do not get the adequate breaks during labor work times that I have usually have with other companies; such as with other colleagues that I have worked for we were at least given 2-15 minute breaks and 1-30 minute lunch per work day. However with Shinn&Son we are only given our 30 minute lunch break. The other issue i have had personally experienced as a labor worker is with our pay day. When hired we are told pay day will be every Friday after 2pm; but while I have worked this season since May 2025; we have only been paid 5 Fridays after 2pm. The other pay days we were told that our checks were going to be held until we finish working 4 extra hours the next day which was Saturday. When asked why they did this, thinking maybe the was a problem in the payroll department with printing or something my supervisor said that they hold our checks so that everyone comes in for the extra 4 hours on Saturday and that if they have us our checks on Friday that no one would come in the next day (Saturday) like the big boss wants. So they hold the checks to make sure everyone comes in Saturday. Yes we still were paid for the Saturday that we came in and the OT but at times I had other responsibilities that needed to be paid the Friday by 5pm and many times I had to make other arrangements to compensate being given my check in another day other than the day I was told. A couple of times due to non payments on the Friday promised, come Monday morning I had my water shut off while at work, electricity shut off while at work and one time my car was almost repossessed because I couldn't make my payment the Friday and accounts payable offices were closed over the weekend. Luckily I have a good standing with the dealership where I purchased my car and the repossession was held off since I promised I'd be in Monday by 5pm. Or than those issues I enjoy working for this company, they treat us well and the pay is good. The other workers are just as hard working and like any other place we all learn to work together efficiently. This is why my family and I choose to return for the past seasons and will most likely continue as long as we are accepted and hired and God willing.
