ACTION ALERT: Let's protect workers against COVID-19

LEE EN ESPAÑOL

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect millions of people around the world, many of whom are workers who face great challenges in their workplaces.

That’s why Centro de los Derechos del Migrante (CDM) and Contratados.org are working on a document that will be shared with the U.S. government so that workers can be protected against COVID-19 in their workplaces.

To achieve this, we need your comments. SPEAK OUT!

The proposal would give many workers:

  • The RIGHT to paid time off to get vaccinated and to recover from any potential side effects of the vaccine.

  • It would also REQUIRE workers to to either get vaccinated OR get tested weekly for COVID-19 and wear face masks at work.

However, the proposal:

  • Would NOT apply to employers with fewer than 100 employees.

  • Would NOT apply to people who work outdoors, unless they commute to work daily in a bus or van provided by their employer.

  • Would NOT give workers paid time off to recover from COVID-19.

  • Would NOT require sanitary measures against COVID-19, such as air filtration, sanitation and general use of face masks.

Although we think the rule is a good idea, we are aware that some changes are needed to protect everyone who works in the United States.

NOTE: We will not use your name or identify you.

Remember that, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaccines are still the best way to protect you against COVID-19. They also recommend continuing to use masks in closed environments regardless of your vaccination status, avoiding poorly ventilated spaces and keeping a distance of 6 feet from others.
