Do you want to get your W-2 and you dont know how to do it? This information can help you!

The W-2 it's a form that shows the amount of the wages received in a year and the taxes withheld from said wages and is needed  for you to make your annual declaration of taxes in the USA.

If you worked in the USA last year, your employer has to give you this form to confirm your earned wages. Most employers distribute them to their employees before January 31 of each year, but if you don't receive it, you can do the following:

1.Notify your employer: First, ask them for a copy of the W-2.  You will need a W-2 from each employer you worked with during the prior year. If your employer sent the form via post mail make sure that they sent it to the correct address.

2.Contact the United States Internal Revenue Services (its acronym in english: IRS): If you already did the first step and you still don't receive your W-2 before February 15 of the year, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and use extension #2 for assistance in spanish. You will need to have the following information when you call:

  • Your name, address, social security number, phone number;

  • Name of the employer, address, phone number;

  • Dates of employment;

  • An approximate estimate of the wages you received and the federal taxes withheld in the last year. If it's possible, take the information of the last check stub you received in the year.

We also suggest that you review the following video made by the IRS about the ways to recover your W-2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF8tQiCzl_
