How do you Verify a Job Offer from Canada?

Looking for a work visa in Canada? Make sure you’re not tricked by fraudulent job offers! To avoid fraud, we recommend that you take the following steps before paying any money or sending any personal documents in response to a job offer.

NOTICE - If you’re looking for work in the United States, these steps can also help you avoid fraud!

Canada has two temporary employment visa programs for unskilled workers: the Temporary Foreign Workers Program (TFWP) and the Program for Temporary Agricultural Workers (PTAT). The TFWP functions similarly to the H-2 programs in the U.S., as contracting is done through private agencies or recruiters. On the other hand, all hiring for the PTAT is done through the public recruitment agency of the Mexican government - the National Employment Service (SNE).

For any job offer in Canada, you - the applicant - should either write directly to the Canadian Embassy in Mexico (in the case of TFWP) or else call the offices of the SNE (in the cases of PTAT). Next, we’ll tell you how to do just that.

  1. Write to the Canadian embassy in Mexico at: [email protected] with your question about the validity of the job offer or work visa. The subject of the email should say “Verification of Job Offer” so that they can make your message a priority.

It is important to include the following key points in your email:

  • Name of the company or employer listed on the job offer

  • Information about the job offer (salary, location, duration, type of visa, etc)

  • Steps that you were told to take (paying a recruitment fee, joining a waitlist, processing a visa, etc.)

  • Also, you should attach any documents that you have received with respect to the offer.

2.  Visit this link to find the phone number of the SNE Office in your state. They can inform you about the steps to take for verifying job offers from the PTAT program.

We recommend that the person interested in working be the one to actually verify the job offer, either by contacting the Canadian Embassy in Mexico through the email provided, or by calling the Office of the SNE at the phone number listed for your state.
