Know your rights! New translations, Spanish videos on MigrantWorker.gov
As a migrant worker in the United States, you have rights under the law that your employer has to respect, no matter what your immigration status is. One resource to learn about these rights is the Department of Labor’s website, MigrantWorker.gov. Recently, the Department of Labor (DOL) published some new resources on this website, including translations to six additional languages and new Spanish videos addressing common challenges workers might face at their workplace.
The website now offers information in eight languages: English, Spanish, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Tagalog and Vietnamese. If you or your coworkers use one of these languages, check out the website, or share the link with your colleague so they can learn about their rights at work in the U.S. too.
MigrantWorker.gov includes important information about your rights in the U.S., including :
The right to a workplace free of discrimination or harassment
The right to organize a union
The right to question an employer’s pay or practices
How to file a complaint in cases where you believe your right was violated
If you speak Spanish, the website now has new Spanish-language videos about your rights that may be helpful! You can watch these to learn about safe transportation to work, illegal recruitment fees, and the right of nursing employees to receive the space and time to breastfeed or express milk, among other topics. Watch these videos from your phone, tablet, or computer!
The Department of Labor also updated MigrantWorker.gov with information about its partnerships with embassies and consulates of other countries, including Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic. You can use this website to learn how and where to contact your country’s consulates in the United States.
