Urgent: DHS proposes eliminating 60-day grace period for TN visas

The United States government is proposing changes to certain employment visa programs, including the TN visa. Among these changes is a proposal to get rid of the 60-day grace period for workers whose employment ends before the expiration date. This change would mean that TN workers who lose or leave their jobs would have to leave the United States the next day.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is responsible for this process. Each agency offers a period of time for the public to comment against or in favor of the changes it proposes. After considering the feedback they receive, the agencies will decide whether to implement the changes or make additional changes.
It is VERY important that the government consider the perspectives of migrants who have worked in TN programs, so we invite you to review the proposal and leave your comments. In this blog, you will find information on how to submit a comment to DHS.

Dear Secretary Mullin,
I am writing to express my opposition to the Proposed Rule on Eliminating the Discretionary 60-Day Grace Period. (Docket USCS-2026-0364).
I have worked on a TN visa in the U.S., and I know how important the 60-day grace period is to workers. This period helps empower workers like me to leave abusive jobs, seek legal help, and find new employment without fear of losing our immigration status.
[insert a description of:
How you or someone you know has used the grace period before
How it’s helped you or someone you know
What you think would happen if you weren’t able to stay in the U.S. for up to 60 days after leaving a job or being fired.]
Thank you for considering the perspective of workers and allowing me to share my experience. I hope you will consider keeping the grace period in place so that workers like me have the support they need to fight back against fraud and exploitation.
Kind regards,
[YOUR NAME]
