Since October 2, H-2A workers have been facing one of the most severe wage cuts in recent years. The Trump administration announced regulatory changes that drastically reduce wages, shift housing costs onto workers, and put the economic stability of hundreds of thousands of families at risk.

Migrant and immigrant farmworkers are essential to the U.S. economy and food system. Yet these new rules expose them to greater exploitation and strip away key labor protections.

Lupita is a Spanish-speaking migrant worker who came to the United States seeking better opportunities for her family. One day, she felt sick and sought medical attention. When she arrived at the health clinic, she was worried that she would not be able to communicate her symptoms because she did not speak English.

When you come to work in the United States, your employer may encourage you to live in housing provided by the company. While such an arrangement may seem convenient, in some cases employer-provided housing can make it easier for your boss to steal your wages or pressure you into living in unsafe and inhumane conditions. To avoid these kinds of abuses, it is important to know your rights and know how to protect them.

Migrant workers have reason for optimism that the U.S. Government will act aggressively to protect their workplace rights.
