Statement of the Migrant Defense Committee regarding the filing of the T-MEC complaint

We are fully convinced that it is essential that governments ensure compliance with the labor rights of migrant workers in the trade agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada. It is unfortunate that to this day, the Mexican laborer is not protected. It is this “cheap” labor, that is an important and strong generator of income for the US economy. American companies profit from our work; the government must ensure the fulfillment of our rights.

A farm labor contractor, Francisco Valadez Jr. LLC, has been debarred for two years from hiring workers through the H-2A program because he violated workers’ pay and safety rights. Valadez provided workers for blueberry harvesting at Winzeler Farms LLC in Kelly, North Carolina, and Sleepy Creek Farms in Harrells, North Carolina.

Un Programa Bracero 2.0 NO es una respuesta humanitaria a la migración laboral México-Estados Unidos

El presidente estadounidense Joe Biden y el presidente mexicano Andrés Manuel López Obrador sostuvieron una muy anticipada reunión bilateral para hablar, entre otros temas, de una propuesta de migración laboral entre ambos países sugerida por el presidente López Obrador durante el fin de semana. Bajo esta propuesta, personas trabajadoras mexicanas viajarían a Estados Unidos para trabajar bajo un esquema similar al Programa Bracero, establecido durante la segunda Guerra Mundial.
